Same here, if they shut down the subscriber forum my time here will drop by 45 hours a week.

While I hope that the subscription service will continue in some form there needs to be a way to make this profitable.

This is the only site that gets my money and That is because with the slow ass connection at work I am pretty sure that the PO servers would just die. I am not a big one for ads and I Also subscribed to help keep these forums afloat. I know that the cost has to be astronomical and I really like the fact that just about any time I need a hand with something people have been very willing to help me out.

I am not sure if I will come back after my sub runs out but then again I will be just one of the many and I will more than likely be unnoticed.

I currently have 374 private messages saved which is my condensed version of my pms right now. I had over 500 and I cleaned them out and I'm sure there are others here almost maxing out there 1000 pm limit. 100 is surely not enough. The forsale/trade forum should not be hampered by a 100 message limit because that cuts down on communication and communication is a key to good trading.
 
this news sux. free servers actually got pretty fast once everyone started subscribing 😀. guess they'll go back to being slow now 🙁

I think it was like 6 months ago that the servers were always slow.
Now it's fine.
I never had a good reason to subscribe.

I think work for me blocks anything with "forums" in the url.

 
It's all for our own good, they're hoping that the ads and lag accessing the forum will push us away from the computer and get us to go out and meet some people.
 
I don't really care one way or another. These forums are extremely fast and I never did subscribe. Though with all the subsribers flocking back to the regular forum servers, it may slow down.

Dpn't worry I have 8 months till the ads become an issue for me. I spend alot more time @ heather's. It just seems to be alot more personal

No the Google toolbar only blocks popups. There should/used to be google adds on the left, and I dont think the google toolbar is going to block their own ads. No you probably also see ads at the top of the page.

Is it simply because of the name? If so, could going by the IP address, or registering another domain name to point to the forums work?
 
There's always the somewhat unpopular prospect of going subscriber-only.
2 years ago everyone would have flipped out and quit on principal, and there will still be some of that, but going subscriber-only has done wonders for the something awful forums. Its actually provided enough revenue for the owner to live off of.

That or someone with any xhtml skill whatsoever could recode the output of fusetalk to be about a third of the size.

Frankly we've all seen the writing on the wall. The ads embedded in the page increasing, the listing adds below every article page, the random keyword ads, the articles stretched over as many pages as possible.... all of this on mostly volunteer labor. This business model is flawed, and its not gonna take much to put an end to it.
