Just find a trustworthy AT member who lives in your country who will be willing to signup on your behalf. I did it a couple of days ago for a fellow British AT member. He sent me a cheque, once it cashed, I registered on his behalf using my credit card.

To subscribe you need to provide your username AND password to the person who is signing up for you. The best thing to do is change your password, give the new password to the person signing up. Once the account been changed to a subscriber account, change it back to your original password. It's highly unlikely someone like minendo would run to the hills with your cash or do something nasty to your account whilst he is in possession of it.
