Hi folks, I've made a lot of changes to my website (much based on the suggestions of wise anandtech folk :)), and added quite a few new things. If ya got a sec check it out and let me know how it looks! Tell me what you think of the layout, if you run into any troubles, or if you have any ideas :) Thanks guys!

nice site, i like...even gonna register for the forums. but dude wheres the off topic and computer hardware forum?! there isint anything about computers in the forum area :frown:

there is a computer forum, "technous" it has the lil cpu icon next to it!

and yeah I host it from home, but I have "supposedly" 256 upload right now... course dsl speed tests show I only have 110 upload.., but before I call our shitty ISP (cough! cough! SBC! cough!) and spend a year on hold, im gunna investigate the nic and the router. :p

as far as the legible font for the front page, i think the front page is the next page that heads into the garage...it's missing... something... I can't tell what yet...

ok i just talk to ous isp, and oops! they set us up for the faster connection but fergot ta turn it on! Once i get home ill powerdown and restart and they said that'l put on on the 256 k upload :)


and yeah i did try to make each menu different styles, but with the same basic layout for consistency, do you think i should make them uniform?

damn, io didn't realise the font i picked was so bad.. I use it a lot too... hmmm maybe the front page should have freenous.com in that font, but freethinking internet community in a easier font...

You're not violating your user license agreement by hosting a website via your line?

Just curious...becuase that's what I though. SBC global right?

no, actually I've been meticulous in making sure EVERYTHING on my server is properly liscensed. I did hafta sign up for a special service from sbc though, (expensive) and they are very skimpy on their upload bandwidth, course they love ta dish out download :p If anyone knows of better services in the nevada area let me know :)

You may want to reconsider using Flash for your navigation, it is slow to load and is unecessary. Using 1k GIFs for your nav buttons would make your visitors much happier

I am considering it, smaller (filesize wise) buttons also means I can have cooler pics and backgrounds. Paid ten bucks fer the flash buttons though :( hate ta waste money

instead of paying extra for business/high-upstream dsl, just pay $5/month to a number of webhosting providers here

Alright I got rid of the flash menu's, I think you folks are right, they do take too long to load, I just used some basic html menus, that should speed things up a bit. Sure will miss them cool flash menus though

Also I combined the front page and the stuff page, so the crazy font is gone.. should make things easier to read...

hows it lookin? hows it loadin?

Just checked your site, it loads much faster! The nav is also much more uniform, which makes navigating from section to section much more intuitive. If you miss the "spice" of a graphic based navigation bar, you can create rollover buttons that mimic the effect you had with the flash, with a lot less overhead.

I noticed, that you coded much of your site in Word? Not shabby for a Word job. I suggest digging a little more into HTML if you have the time and learning about CSS. CSS gives you much more control over how your site looks over different platforms and makes changing/updating your sites much easier. Say, you dont like the color of your text? Instead of changing each page manually, you can change one entry in a linked CSS file. Its amazing the work you can do with just a little CSS and notepad!

Other than that, you are off to a good start on a rather "interesting" website to say the least. Your next project maybe to try and give the site a more uniform appearance, same overall color themes, same fonts, etc. It will give your site a much more professional look.
