Subjective photography question

Mrvile

Lifer
What kind of photography is most visually pleasing to you? Landscapes? Macro? Abstract? No poll because people can always come up with different types, I'm just curious to see what people like.

Personally, I'm an insect shooter but I think a good landscape photo makes the most aesthetically(sp) pleasing photo. Though I have to agree some of the most powerful images out there are photojournalist-type shots.

Visually pleasing? Macro, abstract, and modern urban photography. Mostly, sharp lines and definition appeal to me.

I think you knew that already, though :sun:

I like shots that freeze very fast things. Like, there's a shot, crisp as can be, of a dragster launching off the line, and you can see how those massive back wheels just wrinkle up from all the torque, in perfect focus.

Those are my favorite kinds of photos.

I've gotta disagree. Landscape is one of the hardest to shoot because you aren't in control. Your subjects are the elements and they are always changing. Finding the perfect day to go out and shoot is like waiting for water to boil :disgust:

Yes, but when it starts boiling, you have all day to take a picture 😉

:disgust: Have you ever tried shooting a sunrise?

Heh, yes. But it's also easy in that the subject matter is easy to find. Just go to a park or whatever and check out the overlooks. I've tried to take some urban pictures before and even stuff I think looks really cool in person comes out terrible in my pics.

I can't say I have a favorite. I've seen amazing pictures in all categories as well as really mediocre ones. However, recently I've been most interested in photojournalism.

EDIT: if forced to pick one, I might say high
speed photography. (There are two links there.)

 very cool stuff. I like the videos they make with them too.

Black and White or HDR landscapes with some type of atmospheric feature. For instance, normal, boring puffy clouds don't cut it, low level fog or sun flares over a mountains are cool.

Wow, I'm seriously disappointed in ATOT -- is the maturity level rising or something? No one has said porn yet! Oops...

For me, I can't really choose. I tend to shoot everything, and I have favorites in them all. Most striking: people pictures (not portraits, more like candids). Pleasantly appealing: toss up between landscapes and flowers. Most appealing from a "cool" factor: insect macros.

I'd have to say landscape. There are times when I'll just stand in front of a huge landscape photo in a photo gallery and I can look at it for minutes on end. It just blows my mind. This isn't to say that I sometimes do the same for other types like fast action, portrait, candid, macro, insects, abstract, photojournalism, animal, etc. I've been absolutely stunned before with pretty much all types of photography, kinda like

"zOMG!!"

*end brain function*

*eye candy*

*drool*

For the people who say you have all day to take a landscape shot.. uh, definitely not. 😕
