Subject matter in P&N you have seen addressed in Science Fiction

Very often I am struck by the number of thread topics we discuss here, the subject matter of which has been dealt with, sometimes in great depth, in science fiction, sometimes even rather old science fiction. Sometimes also, actually rather often for me, I just remember bits of stories rather than authors and titles. Perhaps it is because there is nothing new under the sun. Anyway, as a lover of the genre, I would be curious if you have similar associations you might like to share here.

I thought of this one regarding liberals and guns.

Regarding the death penalty for car thieves I remember a story about a psychopath who is confined on a planet of human like androids who can feel no pain and which he can mutilate and murder to his hearts content and without any resistance or complaint, from which, in short, he can draw no vengeful satisfaction. Don’t remember the title or author.

I think a large number of liberals would be ok with guns if they exhibited these magical properties described in that book.

Sounds sort of like the "A Nice Place to Visit" Twilight Zone episode.

If there is anything to the notion that rights are inalienable, something I believe to be literally true, then there must as a matter of fact, exist an alternative justice that instinctively resists tyranny. I think the whole matter of self defense is tied into this.

As to the other, it was definitely in some written story form. I could never really get into the Twilight Zone.

I live in a high fire hazard area in East San Diego. While there are things someone can do to protect themselves. However if someone has a house in Northern CA that backs up against BLM forest that isn't being properly managed, hasn't had the forest floor cleared or trees thinned in decades there isn't going to be enough defensible space if a fire storm roars through the area. The forests in California haven't been properly managed in decades and only now are they starting to better manage those forests and then you add in a changing climate, this has created huge issues for the state.
There's a science fiction book somewhere about people who live in huge genetically engineered trees that supply all of their needs.
