Subaru Fuel System Flush

I'm usually the one taking our cars in for service, but since I'm out of town my wife took her WRX in to Sommer's Subaru (near Milwaukee) for an oil change, and got sold on a fuel system flush. Instead of calling me to ask, she OK'd it. 😡 It is a 2011 WRX with IDK how many miles... maybe around 22,000 or 25,000. I got the "are you satisfied" phone call on my cell phone, and I told them off. The guy on the phone was like, "but we always recommend it as a preventative..." Yeah, because it is FREE MONEY.

Thoughts anyone? Is that kind of service ever required if the vehicle has zero problems?

Nope, never required. She got taken to the cleaners. Luckily its only a couple hundred bucks.

Depending on what they did it might not be money straight down the drain.

A lot of 'car nerds' insist that these treatments do absolutely nothing and are only snake oil, but I have not found that to be the case in real-world situations.

That being said, in my personal opinion fuel cleanout stuff is only useful when the vehicle tends to sit for awhile. If you drive it all the time then they don't do much, although I do like the chevron w/ techron concentrate stuff.

Vehicle is a daily driver that gets regular maintenance and has zero engine problems.

She got taken for $200 (I think that's what she said).

I don't think I'm taking it back there.

I do limited stuff such as changing wheels, wipers. Engine stuff, I'll let someone else scrape their knuckles and get warm oil in their ear.

Yeah at $200, total ripoff for a DD... I would probably pay the dealer a visit and demand half of that (labor costs) as credit.

Cooling system flush would've been money better spent.
