Sub woofer near computer?

Getting a new 2.1 system with a huge subwoofer cabinet, 22" long with 8" woofer. I have seen recommendations that it be at least 2 feet away from hard drive but I see articles by those that seem knowlegable on physics etc that say there is no way a speaker magnet could damage a drive because it would not impart magnetic field sufficient to overcome what holds data on drive unless it was a industrial magnet, degausser etc. How far do you think is safe? I am planning on 1 foot away.

MIne is about 1-3 inches away from my computer, right under my feet. Is that a bad thing?

Edit: obviously, I haven't had any hard drive problems though. 😉

hehehe so do i, comp is ~18 inches away like i said above, havent had an issue

most if not all comp subs and speakers are magnetcally shielded so they wont cause any issues, however i have had teh bass on mine so high it made the CD skip that i was burning and i had to reburn it

HAHAHA

my sub used to be on top of my computer... it was a small sub

now i have z-5300, its a huge sub, and its only like 3 inches away. i never had a problem

2 feet under. i don't think the subs waves have any impact on electronics in general, but the shock waves could cause stuff to get shaken around/vibrate more. i don't know if this is actually bad except in the case of hard drives, where i could see a huge sub right next to the comp. vibrating it a bit.

I'd say about 18" away from the tower. The tower is on the desk and the subwoofer is on the floor beside my desk since it won't fit under (MegaWorks 550).

Not all are though.. Down at Fry's, Someone had put a set of speakers right by one of thier monitors on display and the whole side of the screen was all messed up. Pretty rainbow of colors I may say.. Not a good way to try to sell a monitor. :Q
