The grocery store nere me has pretty good French bread so I eat subs a few time a week but the whole ham, lettuce, provolone, tomato, mayo thing is getting old.

Does anyone have some interesting sub combos to try?

yeah, remove mayo from your sandwich and it will be much better. :D some oil and red wine vinegar to substitute.

Our grocery store has meatball, mojo pork, cuban, philly cheese, chicken cordon bleu, a bunch of chicken tender subs (plain, hot honey, buffalo, bacon ranch and more).

No sheep meat on a sandwich for me.
You prefer your sheep meat served differently?

I really like Cuban sandwiches. Used to get them at Togo's. Pity they were discontinued.

One of the things that prompted this thread is watching an old show on my TiVo from a few years back and seeing an ad for a Firehouse sub called something like "zesty cuban".

I believe the ingredients were (unless I'm misremembering):

Pulled BBQ pork
zesty slaw
a few sauces (mustard and bbq I think)
spiced pickle chips
swiss cheese

I thought "That looks really tasty". I never would have thought to put those ingredients together. I'm open to experiments.

I do buy salami and Black Forest ham occasionally as a regular ham substitute.

I am sick of mayo so maybe I'll try a ranch style condiment instead.
