Hey all,

My brother-in-law is currently looking for a laptop to purchase. However, he doesn't have a lot of cash. He found these two deals that after rebate are <$700

Compaq 2.4 Ghz Celeron

Toshiba 2.4 Ghz Celeron

The specs appear very similar as does the price. The main difference that I see is that the Compaq has the ATI mobility chipset. I would think that would be a plus.

Since I'm more of a desktop man myself, I was wondering if I could get input on these models?

Or, is there something else out there that he should go for? Any current deals?

Thanks in Advance

Don't want to start a war... but from the people I know that have boughten Toshiba notebooks (very recently) they are not impressed with the battery life... 1 hr to 1 1/2 hour tops.

Two friends went as far as returning the laptops within 2 weeks... the others are stuck with them.

Toshiba makes great laptops, and so does Compaq... I would lean more towards the Compaq notebooks from what I have heard about Toshiba... but then again I am not all that informed about Compaq.

:)

For now, I told him to hold off and wait for a deal on a centrino laptop... especially after newer models come out.
