Sub $3k DLP tv's

I haven't been able to find a good 40+" DLP tv for less than 3,000... Is this just how much they cost or am I missing something? I've also only been able to find samsung sets.. Is DLP the only rear projection unit worth investing in?

I bought my 50" Panasonic LCD RPTV for $2400.

I did my homework. I waited quite a while until I pulled the trigger on this TV. I previously had a Sony 36XBR400 HDTV. I looked at all the CRTs, DLPs and LCDs out there and I honestly think this picture was by far the best. Sure there are some limitations to LCD but I personally think the price and PQ override any small complaints about the TV.

Some more pics.

I personally did not think the DLP was all that great. Colors were washed out and you definitely see rainbows.

The hottest RPTVs out now are the Sony Grand Wega III LCDs. Unfortunately, I am now a Sony hater after my 2 YO XBR broke so I wouldn't recommend them.

hmm well i had the opposite experience, i found that the LCDs especially the Grand Wega was really washed out. and after much research i bought the sammy dlp, im watching it roght now and i love it.

The LCD projection sets have great detail, on still or low action shots. They will pixelate on action sequences. Watch a football game on the LCD's then watch one on the Sammy DLP. Samsung has the DNIE technology which really does help with that.

I don't have any problems with washed out colors on my LCD. In fact, I had to turn down the color and set it to cool to get rid of the red push.

I think you must be thinking of the GW2 not the GW3. When I first started looking at RPTVs I was planning on getting a Hitachi 51SWX20B but was intrigued by the GW2. I liked the size but was really turned off by the PQ and the fact that it was a Sony. Later I saw the Panasonic 50LC13 and it blew me away. Sure it has some limitations like poor blacks but I personally don't mind it that much and I don't think the Samsungs are worth nearly 50% more for a supposedly slightly better picture. I read up on all the sites reviews and owner statements on the TVs and when it came down to it, it was my eyes and I was very pleased with the Panasonic.

Rudeguy, I watch football all the time in HDTV and I rarely get pixellation (truthfully). When I do, I'm really not quite sure if it is from compression or not. Either way, I've tried to minimize those things by calibrating the sharpness setting.

Not knocking the Samsung since it is a sweet TV but there are alternatives now to DLP.
