sub 1000 notebook

Hey guys,

I need recommendations for a sub usd 1000 notebook for my friend. I've been looking around but most of them are powered by Intel Celeron processors. Are they any good ? Was trying to look for an AMD notebook but don't seem to find them...

Any suggestions are welcome.

The max may be stretched to the range of usd1100...

Well from what I've seen Dell gets very good product and service ratings and seem to offer good value. I recently bought a 5100 (recommended solutions) for $1099 (I see its $1109 now). I really like it because it has pretty nice hardware for the price (2.66P4, 40GB, 512MB, CDRW). On the downside this bad boy is very big and very heavy (10 lbs!!). When shopping for a value notebook you obviously can't have it all, so I figured I'd go with performance over weight. Here's a link:
