Style my hair but not have it stiff

Can you do such a thing? I get bored with my hair always looking the same and would like to mix it up sometimes. I've never done it before because the gels, hairsprays, etc. that I tried made my hair really crispy. I see actors and such on TV that seem to have styled hair but it sure doesn't look crispy. Can anyone recommend a product?

One word: Manipulator.

Styles your hair without making it stiff. I'd recommend Bed Head by Tigi.

This thread reminds me that I need a haircut.

I've had the same hairstyle for such a long time. Maybe this time I'll actually get something different. (I won't, but it's fun to say that.)

Gels in general tend to leave your hair sticky, shiny, and plastic-looking.
What is your hair type? Thick, thin, stiff, wavy, straight, etc?

I have short, thick, wavy hair. I use the American Crew "Fiber" and Bumble & Bumble "SumoTech" for my hair.
IMO the SumoTech does a far better job of holding and has a few hours' more staying power, but is also terribly expensive and harder to find.

If you have hair that deals well with styling (i.e. fairly soft, straight hair) I'd reccomend the Bed Head wax stick by Tigi.
It's got a funky (but not repulsive) fragrance, and it's damn near impossible to wash out completely in one go, but man, it holds and sticks like nothing else.

good call!
I also would try a line called d:fi or a line specifically for men called American Crew. Both have good clay, mud or wax products that would suit your needs!

You basically do not want to use gel nor hairspray.

You need to use a pomade, or a wax. Like someone above suggested, I have American Crew Fiber. It's like $14 for a container. You can get it at any salon or even Safeway (supermarket). You just get a little out of the tub, then smooth it out in your hands then put it in your hair. It smells good and you can basically bend your hair into any shape you want. It'll still bend, it'll just stay. It's perfect if you want that "deliberately messed up" or "just got up" hairstyle.

Does pomade or wax leave your hair feeling greasy or anything? I've never tried either product.

When did that become popular? I fix my hair to avoid that look. That 'Jimmy Fallon when he does the news' look.

I just bought some American Crew pomade. After washing my hair and "styling" it in the usual fashion, I'm sold. Too bad it's not cheaper. The pomade was 12.95.

I also like the American Crew stuff, but I use the texture cream as a sort of hair gel, sept it isn't gell, so it's not plasticy looking. It will last the day without much of a problem as long as you don't play with your hair, and hey, if it isn't looking quite right part way threw the day, just run your hand through your hair, get it a bit wet, and style again, still holds fairly decent then, and looks even less like there is something in your hair.

It's trendy...kinda Euro, I think. I like that look and I want that look but my gel (KMS Hair Stay) just doesn't seem to do it. I'll have to try that American Crew Fiber.

try rusk wired. it's a kind of cream that is light but works without leaving your hair sticky.

i use crew too.
it's very washable.

I.C.E. is not very washable....it stays in your hair for days! when i try and shampoo, it won't even foam up! I can put some pomade ICE in my hair just once a week and it'll be good.

Some input on pomades:

Nu-nile: Super waxy, you need paint thinner to get it out. Has pictures of Shaft and Cleopatra Jones on the can.

Murray's: Been a long time, but I remeber it being pretty waxy too. Not as bad as Nu-nile.

Royal Crown (my choice): Greasy, almost like Vaseline. Washes out fairly easily. I cut it with some LA Looks gel to offset the greasiness. That cocktail seems to work pretty well.

As a side note, does anybody think it's strange that most of these hair styling prodicts have a separate-but-equal section at the drugstore?

Wow, quite the discussion on hair products. When are you all gonna start wearing lipstick and other makeup?

Bunch of girls...
