exactly correct. dual channel 2x256MB PC2700. hhmmm, so does this mean that having 512MB of ram nowadays is barely a minimum already especially when playing current games?

Actually, Doom3 and Farcry are the only ones requiring more than 512 mb of memory. Most other games area fine with 512, but wait another year and see what happens.

I get some stuttering on a P4 3.6, 1GB RAM, and 6800GT.

What is your AGP Aperture setting ? Its one of the many settings found in the BIOS (shown at PC startup). Try upping that one step, ie: if its set to 128, set it to 256.

Even with 1GB RAM and a 9800 Pro, I always got stuttering for the few seconds after the map loads in UT2004 and HL2, but then it runs smooth all the way after that.

Its probably just the game caching the level from the hard drive to memory, or doing whatever else it needs to get the level ready for play...

And BF1942, BF: Vietnam, Half Life 2, All of the Call of Duties, as well as any Online RPG. (many of the new ones throw around 1GB+ numbers while in use.)
