Stuttering problems with X1900XT in quite a few games.

The Games that do this are:
Doom 3
Quake 4
Pacific Fighters
Half Life 2: Lost Coast

My specs are:
X1900XT
Athlon 64 3500
2 gigs of ram at PC2700 speed

I run the games at 1024*768 and 1152*864 and it stutters like crazy. I have the latest drivers(catalyst 6.3, I use the CCC) and I came from an Nvidia 7800GT(please, don't comment on my upgrade, just help me with my problem here) and it didn't do this. I uninstalled the nvidia display drivers and then had driver cleaner uninstall the nvidia WDM drivers 5 times, which should have been enough. I installed the .NET 1.1 drivers, and today I updated it to the .NET 2.0 drivers and did a restart and that didn't help. I need help stopping this stuttering issue. HDR+AA doesn't work as well, BTW. When I enable HDR and AA, the AA doesn't show up and it's still jaggied.

Comment on your upgrade: Man ! I wish I could be you :-(

Try installing one of these games again. I don't think that'll help though! Bah, sorry

I'm having to keep this thing for 3 years, though. But do you think uninstalling the drivers and going to the 6.2 drivers would fix this?

I'm using an ABIT KN8 ultra. The stutters are very light, like a 0.25-0.5 second one every 3 seconds and I have installed the older 6.2 drivers now and it seems a bit better, although the stutters are still there. What chipset drivers are you talking about? And I've tried V-Sync and it doesn't really do the job.

What chipset drivers are you talking about?
The ones for your motherboard.

If you're running an nForce chipset I suspect you've hosed them when you removed nVidia's GPU drivers.

I didn't uninstall the nforce drivers. Also, everything is good now(at least the stutters are now unnoticable). Thanks for the help.

Power Supply is an Antec 550w TruePower II with voltages of 11.43 on 12v and -7 on -12v rails. It's gonna be replaced with a PC Power and Cooling I got behind me once I get a Power Supply bracket or whatever those things are called so that I can fit the PSU into my SLK3000B case.

hey i have the same problem with my x1900xt, check this thread here-

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=1836358&enterthread=y

also, go to ati control panel and check your gpu temperature while its idle and when its on full oad ( check full load by playing a 3d game for 10 minutes, immieddiately quit by hitting ALT+F$, and check temperature.)

you can also download motherboard monitor 5, which will tell you everything about how much temp, voltag usage, fan speed, everything!!!

My X1900XT runs about 60-63C idle and 79-81C(is that too hot?) under full load(I tested it under half life 2:Lost coast with 6xAA and 8xHQAF and 1600*1200 resolution and all the goodies turned on and HDR as well). It turns out that it was downclocked a bit. It was 621mhz core and 720mhz memory(1440mhz effective). I turned it to 625mhz core and 725mhz memory(1450mhz effective) where it's supposed to be and it runs great and stutters less. Sometimes 10mhz memory and 4mhz core can make a difference. :D My PSU is an Antec 550W TruePower 2.0

Some tips:

-Flash to the latest BIOS for your motherboard.
-Uninstall and then reinstall the lastest official motheboard drivers from Nvidia.com

Why did you need to uninstall Nvidia WDM 5 times? It kept reloading?

What's your RAM configuration like? How many sticks?

The RAM configuration is 2 1 gig sticks. I uninstalled the nvidia drivers 5 times to make sure. It runs great now, though.
