Stuttering MP3 player problem.

I got a 128MB MP3 player similar to the one that Dan's Data named "George" from CompUSA, the problem I'm having is that every song I've UL'ed to it stutters and is occasionally sluggish. I'm talking multiple PCs, multiple CDs, multiple bit rates, and multiple encoders. Same problem. Exchanged the unit, and no change. Firmware utilities for the various "George" players don't even see the unit. The CD that came with it only has Win98 mass storage device drivers.

Any ideas?

Well, after much tinkering and prodding. I found out that it cannot play MP3s above 112kbps smoothly. It seems to lack the processing power or bandwidth. I ripped a 96kbps file from the same disk that a 160kbps file came from, and guess which one worked?

...looks like I'll be returning it.
