Stuttering in game with 6800 GT new drivers?

Playing BF2 on my system below. I updated to the drivers that came with the game and ti will stutter/freeze for about 2 seconds. It is very infrequent, but very annoing when it does it.
Then I tried FarCry which plays perfect on my older machine (XP2200+, 512MB RAM, Radeon 9700) and the problem is much, much worse. Freezes constantly and the colors are off. Some of the decking/grating is not even showing up on the screen.
I've tried all different video settings with no luck.
The card is at stock speed.

I never had any problems until I got BF2 and installed those drivers. I updated to 77.5 last night, but FarCry is jsut as bad. I have yet to pley BF2 with them though.

Just wondering if anyone is experiencing similar problems?

I'm playing BF2 at 1600x1200 and i have a BFG 6800GT, Athlon64 3800+ and 1GB of OCZ DDR400 EL Platinum and the game lags like a mofo sometimes (i don't have AA on). There's 1 video setting thats set to medium, its whichever one gets set to medium by default when you put the settings on High. I don't seem to have any problems with other games though (only other game i'm playing right now is GTA: San Andreas). But yeah, BF2 is kinda disappointing me with the way its lagging on my system. I have noticed it doesn't lag as bad in multiplayer as it does in single player though. Single player mode is pretty much unplayable at that resolution on my system, it lags too much. You're not alone man, i feel your pain 🙁

Ahh, I believe I do have the sound set to high. I will lower that.

But why would I be having troubles with FarCry? Anyone use these drivers while playing FarCry on a 6800 GT?
I know it's not a system problem and my VC seems to be working great. I got 11800 in 3DMARK 03 which is great for eveything at stock speeds.
That just makes me think it is a driver issue.

BF2 uses more than 1GB of memory at max settings.

To reduce memory usage:

Turn textures down to medium
Disable shadows
Turn lighting down to low
Turn sound quality down to medium (this one saves nearly 200MB).

Edit:

My thread on BF2s memory consumption.

That 2GB memory usage only applies to a server with 64 people does it?

Gamespot mentioned 1GB was fine, although 512MB was chunky
They also used high quality setting

May be because they used a 6800 Ultra?
But if RAM is bottlenecking it shouldn't matter

Memory usage varies widely with the map. So far in my testing at max settings there is no map that DOESNT exceed 1GB at max settings on my rig.
