Stuttering and jumpiness in games online?

Hi guys. I have ADSL installed, 512kbps up and ~256kps down. When I play games online, Counter Strike, Unreal Tournament and Day of Defeat, occasionally I will jump forward or other players will do the same. Is this some sort of packet loss?

BTW, my pings are 40 - 60

ping around 40-60 is good.

when the jumpings happen, check what you ping is, does it spike up?
It is also possible that it's not you who's lagging, but other players.

Yeah, I thought about a ping spike but it never goes over 80 really, and I dont know how to check until I die:-( Yeah, I thought other could be laggy, and some are 200+ which may cause it. Thanks anyways, do you think i have anything to worry about?

while playing, if you sense those jumping symptoms, hit tab, right away (in counter-strike) to see your ping.

If you dont get fraged b/c of this, then there's nothing to worry about.

In CS just do

net_graph 1

or maybe it is netgraph 1

Not sure, try both ;) It gives you a realtime chart with your ping. You can look for HUGE RED thingies to show if you have packet poss.

Well, I tried both, couldnt get the graph to work, so I just used the tab key. I went to an empty DoD server, and just ran back and for with the key on for about 3 minutes, and thee were not major jumps in ping, just from like 40 - 60 again. SO I guess that it's everyone else:) Thanks again

Try "netgraph 1" :)

net_graph 1 worked:) Well, there were a few ping spikes, but they werent anything to do with what I was describing. In other words, where the ping spike is, I dont notice in real play, so thats ok. Thanks again
