Water cooling and electronics. I've been at it since I got into computers and it's a PITA to swap parts and it's not like I haven't had leaks. Back in the day 2000ish WC equipment was far inferior than today. Hell we didnt have radiators used heater cores from cars and aquarium pumps.

One time we were getting ready to move to a newer version of an app that used a SQL Server database. The new version was a lot different so I installed the new one on a new machine with a fresh SQL install so some of the users could start testing the app by using a clone of the production data. In the meantime the daily work continued on the old version.

While the testing of the new version was going on, I decided to spend a couple days cleaning up the production database, getting rid of orphaned records, deleting obsolete data, re-evaluating all stored procedures, etc. and in general scrubbing the data so that would be all done before we completely migrated to the new version.

Three weeks later the testing is complete, everyone is ready, new version clients installed, and we copy the production database over to the new database. Working great except I notice things I had cleaned up in the database were back.

I had done all that work on the TEST database and not the production one, and it was all lost. I have no idea how I didn't notice that for two days.

I agree that flash drives are a far superior way to transport data. However, if you need to put test patterns on the TV by playing a BR in your BR player, you need a BR in order to do so. :hmm: That's why I was trying to burn a BR disc, so I could play test patterns on the TV to calibrate it. It's all about the calibration, you know.

$18 is a lot cheaper than a BD recorder drive.

I bought a BD version of Digital Video Essentials a long time ago. Was there a better/free alternative?

DVE includes printed color guides and transparent films. Not sure how you could do DIY calibration without this.

I've wanted to have a BR burner for some time now but they were expensive. They've come down in price significantly in the past few months. It was time.
There are free test discs/patterns with instructions available on the various HT forums out there. Some are better than the commerically-available alternatives like DVE and they are free.

LOL I've been there. I once replaced distributor and coil with an Accel electronic version and could not get the engine to fire at all. I'd spent the better part of an hour tracing and trouble shooting connections when my uncle the mechanic came by and asked if my rotor was worn out. I told him "No, it's brand new" and picked it up to show him - which of course meant it wasn't in the distributor . . .

Doesn't matter how powerful a coil, if there's no rotor there's no spark to ol' number one.

This problem is screaming for an "As Seen On TV" type of product: A hat with a track around it that the visor portion slides along.
Then you can look like the guy in the picture, or you can also slide it right around to the front to block sunlight.
No more messy hair from taking off your hat and trying to get it situated just right. <B&W video of a distraught person trying and failing at this>


And I'm sure if I made that product and sold it for $19.95 + some stupid "call in the next 18.6 nanoseconds" crap to go with it, I could probably make several hundred thousand dollars at least.

I had FF set to restore previous tabs instead of opening a home page, so it doesn't ask. It just saves them.

Now I use Chrome and I have it set the same way.
