I think my computer decided to "push MY buttons" last night.

I finally got Visual Studio.NET and was gearing up to install it, when I noticed I had about 2 gig left on my harddrive. No problem, I'll just clean a few things up. I had to uninstall a couple things like the DirectX SDK and Platform SDK's prior to installing anyway. So, away I went.

First, the DXSDK decided to be stubborn and error out on the uninstallation. After physically deleting the thing, I figured I'd reinstall over top and let that one clean everything out. The install errored out as well. Finally, I went to the Administrator account in which it decided to play nice. Oddly, my "normal" account has Admin permissions...

With that out of the way, it was off to my Games folder to remove some of the ones I no-longer play. DAOC:Shrouded Isles, then the original Dark Age of Camelot as well... And so the nightmare began. The uninstaller for that, in someone's infinite wisdom, decided to remove the entire C:\Games parent folder where I put all my games. All of em. No biggie, I can reinstall.

Then I look at my drive statistics, and something didn't seem right. After comparing the folders that were left and such, I was magically missing about 6 gig of space. chkdsk came back clean. Double checked everything - temp files and all. 6 gig unaccounted for.

So fine.

I pressed the I-Win button... and let the WinXP CD delete the partition, format, and reinstall.

But... where does 6 gig disappear to??

Hmm....

Actually - no. It was deleted by an uninstaller, which they never put things in the recycle bin from my experience. And even that said, The Recycled folder wasn't on the file list, so I don't think it was there.

Either way, it gave me an excuse for a fresh install.
