Seriously people - spend 5 seconds to look into an issue before just giving up and making IT do your job.

Apparently 2 accountants and 1 salesperson got together and decided the entire system wasn't working correctly so they nagged me to look into it.

This quickly turned from 'The whole system' to 'One customer' once I pressed for examples

So I looked at the customer account for 5 seconds:

Credit limit: $20,000
Outstanding Balance: $300,000

Fucking really? No one could figure out why the customer was still on credit hold? 2 accountants couldn't figure this out?

TL;DR
-I didn't get enough sleep last night and am apparently too tired to deal well with stupidity

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

In defense of us who work upstairs, sometimes IT can be really, really stupid. Last week, the lads scheduled a non-critical server update during rush hour, which brought down our traffic app and website. They couldn't do this during mid-day or overnight because I don't know. Of course I'm pulling my hair out because they're not the one who have to explain to our users why our shit doesn't work.

The best email back at that point is probably one that BCC's your boss with their complaint included, and then the simple 2 line listing of the facts.

What was probably happening there was the customer was making a fuss over being on credit hold. Whoever they were talking to passed the buck because they didn't want to be the ones to tell the guy no and they also didn't want to be the ones responsible for giving him even more credit. They were probably hoping you'd "make it work" somehow so the customer would quit yelling at them and you'd be the one they could point at if some higher up wanted to know who had authorized giving this guy $300,000 more than his credit limit.

The main hazard of working in IT is not only getting to see everyone's unbridled stupidity, but constantly needing to deflect the blame that comes your way when they try to hide it.

I always say, you can NOT put a price on working with smart people.

Fortunately, I'm working with smart people right now. Love it.

Someone would be unemployed over that.

What industry?

High tech manufacturing

Yeah, the guy I work for is dumb as a box of hair.

No surprise there :)

Its possible but I doubt it. They aren't very big and don't like to pay on time so they are already 'Pre-pay required' so we don't exactly bend over backwards for them
