stupid windows 98 video question

I can make this old windows 98 machine run in 800x600 but as soon as I restart it, it reverts back to the stupid 640xwhatever resolution. Is there a solution to this?
 
Perhaps check your refresh rate, and monitor drivers. It also helps to have a little more info when trying to help in a situation like this. Like, video card, monitor, drivers, etc...

video card drivers should also be checked.
