Stupid Wii Question for the week -- sorry Wii Newbie!!

GCS

Diamond Member
My sister is giving her son a Wii for X-mas. He currently has a Gamecube and I know that the Wii can play GC stuff. Can he just use one of his existing GC controllers or will he need to get the "Wii Classic Game Controller"

Sorry for the newb question but I am just a little confused.

Thanks!

Greg

I thought so but seeing the Wii Classic Controller out there I got confused.

Thanks for clearing that up for me!

Greg

I have the Classic Controller and it indeed does work with some GC games and (works really well) with the older titles released on the VC.

But like Modeps said, the original GC controllers are fully supported on the Wii. There is a little panel on the side of the Wii that lifts up revealing 4 ports. 🙂

What game is this?

CC has never worked with GC, ever. If they changed that, thats news to me. The only way to play GC games is with a GC controller.

My understanding is that you NEED a GC controller to play GC games, but that you can play virtual console games with either the classic controller, or a gamecube controller.

I'm pretty sure Ocarina supports it.

You also have to have a GC memory card for gamesaves. Your description of controller compatibilities is spot on though.

I'm going to give this a shot when I get home.

As in, the GC bonus disk version of ocarina of time?

heh...which disk though? the one with ocarina of time + ocarina of time master quest, or zelda collectors edition with zelda 1, 2, ocarina of time, and majoras mask!

Well it doesn't work with the Zelda Collector's edition. The wiimote shut itself off when I started the game and wouldn't redetect.

I don't think the classic controller will work w/ GC games.

which is a damn f'in shame, and a terrible oversight by nintendo. there had better be a damn good technical reason why they couldn't do it.

The reason is that they turn off every piece of hardware that wasnt present in the GC when its playing GC discs. Not only can you not use the CC, you cant even use the wiimote to turn the system off remotely.

Yea--that one.

There's a little panel with a flap cover that you open up and it will reveal 4 GC controller ports. I believe it's on the top of the console.
