Reposted from OT because I'm an idiot who can't pick the right forum after being up 24 hours straight . . . :D

I bought a Jaht G adapter from Newegg for my PC. My wi-fi router is nothing special; it's a Network Anywhere (Nowhere? ) NWK11B from a combo kit. When I have WEP enabled, the PC can see the router just fine, has a great signal (until I move Friday the router is sitting about six inches from the PC). But no matter what I do it won't connect. I've tried multiple WEP keys, typed them in several times just to make sure that I wasn't typing it wrong, but no go. With WEP disabled, it works great.

Now in all honesty, WEP doesn't make a big difference to me after next week or so, because the house I'm moving to is surrounded by cornfield, but figuring out WHY this isn't working would be nice . . . is it because the router and card are different brands? B vs. G? Or something else?

Found some interesting info about my router . . .

It's like a spy movie . . . "Router, if you are sold at Wal-Mart we will disavow any knowledge of your existence . . ."

The Router being 802.11b is probably WEP only.

The Card being 802.11g is probably WPA capable (hopefully maintaining WEP as well).

Make sure that the card is set to WEP and not WPA

That doesn't make sense, it works fine with WEP disabled . . .?

Sorry I meant WEP compatibility.

Could be that the encryption routine in the Card does not work correctly.

BTW. CompUSA has 802.11g cards this week for $9.99 after rebate.
