"Trump: 'I don't see' Michael Cohen flipping against me 'despite the horrible Witch Hunt and the dishonest media!'

Two things I note.
First is that if Trump hasn't done anything wrong then how could Cohen flip? Anything Cohen says won't be taken at face value so some "there" must be there. The answer to that question should be obvious.

Second is that Trump completely out of context, Cohen having a "wonderful family"- yeah and it would be a shame if something happened to them.

This villain becomes more cartoonish by the hour.

That quote from Trump is also out of context. Look at the sentence that immediately precedes it.

"Most people will flip if the Government lets them out of trouble, even if it means lying or making up stories."

Then he says he doesn't see Cohen doing that.

And damn you for making me defend Trump. I feel all dirty now.

He went nuclear on Haberman and said he never talks to her, which only boosts the credibility of her story imo.

Also lol maybe don't give her exclusive interviews in the oval and take pics if you're going to try that...

One of Trump's lawyer friends pointed that out, but he was simplistic and dishonest. Cohen could say "I heard that Trump likes it up the butt from Putin", or something seriously illegal. What will absolutely NOT happen is that the Mueller team says "Gotcha Trump!". Even Cohen understands that saying something false or misleading will lead to charges all on their own.

So Cohen lies to protect Trump. Cohen goes to jail and his life becomes a living hell before the trial and forever after.

Cohen tells the truth. The SDNY and perhaps Mueller (depending on what is being offered by Cohen) follows it or not again all depending on merits.

The vast majority of flipped information is reliable. The remainder means the fibber is even more screwed. Trump is presenting a false premise to begin with.

I just meant that when I read Trumps tweet I read it as Cohen won't make shit up about me in order to "flip". Not that there's something to flip about.

Perhaps and it's hard to know with Trump but considering how things work in a high profile case, and there hasn't been one remotely like this even including Nixon IMO, there's no good purpose here.

As to the "wonderful family"...

Sergeant: (John Cleese) Two civilian gentlemen to see you sir!

Colonel: Show them in please, sergeant.

Sergeant: Mr Dino Vercotti and Mr Luigi Vercotti.

(The Vercotti brothers enter. They wear Mafia suits and dark glasses.)

Dino: (Terry Jones) Good morning, Colonel.

Colonel: Good morning gentlemen. Now what can I do for you.

Luigi: (Michael Palin) (looking round office casually) You've... you've got a nice army base here, Colonel.

Colonel: Yes.

Luigi: We wouldn't want anything to happen to it.

What's absurd: a President of the United States is tweeting about how his lawyer, who may go to prison for bank fraud or other crimes, isn't likely to flip on him.

That, in a nutshell, explains why Trump should never have been elected.

I agree, but all the reasons why he should not have held office wouldn't fit into a moon-sized nutshell. Well Rudy will sort this all out in a week or two. Yes that was sarcasm.

On a related note apparently conservatives are now freaking out that Sessions said he would resign if Rosenstein were fired, talking about abandoning their support for him.

That’s right, conservatives are enraged by the fact that the attorney general may act with integrity if the president attempts to remove public officials in order to obstruct a criminal investigation into him and his associates. That’s how deep the rot is.

Did they act any differently when he acted with integrity by recusing himself? No they wanted him fired. Ironic now that they don't want to see him leave. They really can't decide on a consistent position.

I think their position is very consistent. They want the justice department to act in a way that shields Trump from criminal investigation. This is of course an almost unbelievable level of corruption, but that’s what’s left of the conservative movement.

To you and me, well yeah, absolutely. But allow me drag up from the abyss of well worn adages this little re-purposed misspoken nugget: "For those that hate Trump, no explanation is necessary. For those that adore Trump, no explanation will suffice." ;)

To me, that explains why Trump should have had a better lawyer.

I don't think I'm putting on the tin hat here but I an now seriously considering that the deeper reality beyond Trump isn't Trump's survival.

Think about how the is RNC being outed for corruption with Cohen and Playmate payoffs (and an abortion to go with that), the way Nunes and other Republicans are not only protective but apparently desperate to a point of losing power. Why? This goes against what I think of as the Zeroth Law of Politics- Obtain and retain power.

This leads me to ask if this investigation threatens Republicans individually and corporately, leading back to illegal donations, dealings on the criminal level so heinous at the deepest foundational level, a genuine existential threat to their freedom and party?

I don't know of course but the possibility of one of the greatest political upheavals since the Revolution is no longer an insane idea.

Given that Cohen paid off Stormy Daniels to help Trump's campaign, I suspect it's about a lot more than needing a better lawyer. And besides, I thought Trump only hired "the best people?"

It’s increasingly difficult for me to see how this ends without something bad happening as I find it quite likely that Trump is guilty of fairly widespread criminal activity. If that turns out to be true, we are in deep shit as the only options I see are these:

1) Upon the release of evidence of Trump’s criminal activity he says ‘fake news!’ and Republicans in Congress refuse to remove him from office. We then have a known criminal in charge of the huge powers of the federal government who knows he won’t be held accountable for abusing them. I don’t think I need to explain what a disaster that would be.

2) Republicans DO act and he is removed from office. The Republican base will go through the roof and declare it a deep state plot, almost no matter how convincing the evidence. I expect violence to erupt following this and probably a significant uptick in right wing terror attacks.

Scary stuff. I honestly hope he’s not guilty of anything because while he’s nearly entirely incompetent, we can survive an idiot much better than a criminal.
