Alright, quick rant. My dad just called me to help him out in the garage. He's changing the oil on our 2001 Camry and the stupid filter won't come off. I mean its stuck on there. I finally just had to take a screwdriver and punch it through the filter to get it off. Those stupid numbnuts at the dealer that did the last oil change tightened the filter too much. I'm gonna go over there and give that service manager a piece of my mind next week. Ugh, how incompetent do you have to be to get a job changing oil at the dealer?

You're supposed to give 3/4 turn max once the thing makes contact. That's why they have a gasket on them:disgust:

Sounds like overtightened and no lubing the gasket.
Let it go... Get a Strap-Wrench from Sears...

Don't care. That dealer has tried to screw me before. The only reason my dad took it back to them was b/c he had a coupon for a free change. I guess there really aren't any free lunches

Every dealership and chain does this so you will have to come back to them for oil changes. It is only supposed to be turned 3/4 ways as it tightens after that on its own. Skoorb just went through the same thing last week as did I about a month ok. I freaking hate places like that!

They probably forgot to put oil on the seal before putting it on. They should give you a free oil change for that.

Yeah, I figured I could get that out of them. But what do I gain? Another overtightened filter.

I would not get too bent out of shape. I've changed my own oil before and found the filter very hard to loosen at the next change.

Stuck oil filter + screw driver = unstuck oil filter.

What would be the point of gong in there? You didn't pay in the first place, and it seems like you don't want a free oil change as compensation anyway.

Just send a letter to toyota Customer Service, tell them your dealer is a doufus, and end it at that.

Excellent advice.

There are many things in life which are annoying, but not worth getting angry over.

Life is far too short to waste it seeing red over an over-tightened oil filter.

You need something to rant at your dealer about go ahead. I have found factory filters on new cars to be too tight too. It happens.

Well, like I said, this isn't the first time they've screwed up, though this is minor compared to what they tried to do to me before.
