<sigh> no bites.

Here is my rationale: if you have an infinite number of monkeys, each with a typewriter, one of them will eventually bang out War and Peace by hitting random keys, given enough time. If you have a seriously long amount of time, this same event will happen multiple times.

So in other words, with a sufficiently large span of time, the entirety of human history will reoccur exactly in the same way, over and over again.

i don't see it happening the EXACT samy way. but pretty damn close.

edit. not to mention what you are talking about would make time in a circle. I would think its more of a spiral.

Maybe what you mean to say is "There is nothing new under the sun."

Ask yourself this: Why are zebras black and white instead of red and orange? Eh? Eh?

Because it is camouflage. It breaks up their outline to predators who can only see in black and white.

Because black and white paints are cheaper.

The internet has proven otherwise.

pi isn't cyclical no matter how long you give it. Or sqrt(2)

Are zebras black with white stripes, or white with black stripes? ;)

pi isn't an event. To be fair, I'll restate my hypothesis:

Given enough time, every event will occur an infinite number of times in exactly the same way, and therefore is cyclical.

True, but when an event happens an infinite number of times in exactly the same way, it is cyclical. Given enough time, those monkeys are going to bang out War and Peace an infinite number of times, and the period between instances will become more and more regular as one reaches infinity.

No, I'm thinking on a much larger scale over longer periods of time. Also, reincarnation makes the assumption that there is a soul that can be reborn repeatedly - that's not what I'm talking about. What I'm getting at is that given a enormous amount of time, everything happens over and over again exactly the same.

Agree or disagree?

disagree. everything is bicyclical. :p

The real question is, does the universe need training wheels?
no, but it needs to be potty trained.

I thought thats what black holes were for?

i'm going with time is sprilly, like a previous poster said.

Well, it could be cyclic, they do say that the Big Bang happens, the universe expands, then starts to collapse on itself and another big bang happens. So maybe what we are doing happened already countless billion years ago in a previous universe under a different Big Bang than the one we are under now?

weird thought.

Better question: Practically speaking, does it matter? I mean, time on that scale is beyond human comprehension anyway.

Isn't that statistically impossible?
