I have a roommate. Nice girl, but not too sharp. Think butter knife.

The other day she was working on her resume, when she asked me how to cut and paste something in Word. No biggie, walked right over there, highlight, Ctrl-X, Ctrl-V, done. Then I realized what I had just moved for her. It was the COMPUTER SKILLS section of her resume!!! Proclaimed herself "proficient in Excel, Powerpoint, Word, and Office". Oh, you know Word and Office! Hired!

Just now, I watched her open up a browser window and type www.google.com into the address bar. After google came up, she then typed www.hotmail.com into the search field, clicked the link to hotmail after it came up, and proceeded to check her email. I have not the words.

I'm normally not one to criticize, but this was just too funny not to share. Anyone else have a great story or two?

I've seen myself spill an entire glass of 7-Up onto the keyboard that was lying across the top of the case. I started to cry at first, but then I saw that very little pop got on the case.

Once I trashed a computer only to find that the files weren't actually inside the computer.

That's a flying leap for the power strip situation. Not stupid. Accidents happen.

Words cannot describe the things that I have seen - even from PAID PROFESSIONALS. Smoking in the 'clean room' - kids climbing on bins of CPUs and 6-foot high stacks of cases like a jungle gym. Trying to load an Intel based image onto an AMD based computer. Not knowing how to launch Internet Explorer without an internet button on the keyboard. Clicking both mouse buttons at once. Returning an optical mouse because the ball was missing. Stuff like that.

This story from rinkworks makes me want to kill myself:
A man who owned a small business asked me to program a sales and inventory system for him. He was replacing his old 286 PC and had been running a DOS-based program.

He wanted all the bells and whistles, wanted it browser-driven, with images of all the products in his inventory. But the most important thing to him was that it all run off of floppies -- his 286's hard drive had crashed in the past and he lost all his records, so now he didn't trust hard drives. Not only did he want the whole thing on floppies, he wanted to be able to do a backup onto one floppy every night.

The other thing was that he didn't want to use a mouse or any other sort of pointing device.
