Paying money to E-File taxes when it costs the government more if you spend 39 cents and snail mail in the forms.

Maybe because whatever costs the government we have to pay for it?

Is it the government that's charging you to E-file? As far as I know, it doesn't cost anything to file electronically, but you often pay to do so through a tax firm like H&R Block. Though I fall under the category where they provide tax software and filing for federal for free. They charge to file the state but I just go to the Illinois government site and file through them for free.

I agree with everything but Booze and Bottled water. Nothing better than a nice beer (or six) with dinner or while watching sports. Bottled water is good for areas with crappy/sulfur rich water.

You realize its YOUR money your getting back right?? 😕

I would love it, LOVE it, if the government did not take out tax money throughout the year.
Want to see people really bitch at tax time? Hot them with a tax bill they havent paid on yet. Then people might wake up and give a fvck about how much they pay in taxes and how its spent. Anymore though tax time is like party time because everyone gets back some money and is happy.... 😕

QFT. Force everyone to pay quarterly self-employment taxes = riots in the streets.

1) usually i agree. but when its 240million or so i enjoy buying a few dollers worth. it gives me something to dream about and hope for. its good harmless phone. Its the people who hope to win for retirement that bother me.

2) i agree. some are so addicted they can't get off them though.

3) disagree. i enjoy haveing a beer in the evening while sitting outside. now the people that go spend hundreds a week sure.

4) i agree. $4 for a cup of coffee?

5) i lived in area where it was recommended to buy bottled water. the stuff comeing out of the tap was not safe. also you could go to wal-mart and get a gallon for less then a buck. yeah its tap water but it was from a area that had safer water.

Do you really think it costs the government more to process a return electronically rather than the traditional paper method? The reality is I can still choose to send in the paperwork by snail mail for 39 cents and I will probably start doing that again next year because it really irks me to pay for something that obviously saves the government money. The IRS has a link for free E-Filing on their site but it is only for people with an AGI of $52,000 or less.

No, I am saying it cost more to process paper. Read the post I quoted and responded.

Do what I did. Taxact.com (or similar websites) will e-file your federal tax for free (no income limit). They'll even prepare your state tax for free. But they charge to e-file the state tax. Solution? Print out their prepared state tax, and punch those numbers into your state's free e-file yourself and don't pay a penny for any of this (most if not all states have it).

Free preparation, free e-file of federal, and free e-file of state. It is win, win, win. Heck, even the government has lower costs this way because Taxact paid for everything.
