Stupid soccer mom

GRRRRRR....
So I was just looking out the window and some lady was dropping her kids off next door. She then backed out and smacked right into my bumper. She then stopped and I walked out and asked her what happened. She admited that she did it no problem. Her car a 05 Nissan Murano bumper off at the hinge and would definlty have to be replaced. My car, a 95 integra, had a scratch and the bumper was slightly loosened. Her husband then came and the cops were called just to be safe. They took the report, and the husband even said about paying it off. The cops handed me my copy of the report and left. If they go to file a claim, do I have any chance to geting any money out of this? I would rather have the scratch just buffed out and take the payment vs. having it fixed. Just wondering what the next step is.

I did the same thing as him. I was rear ended, got a quote to replace my rear bumper which came out to over 600 dollars. My truck is a 97 explorer which I dont plan on keeping much longer anyway. Its kinda stupid to fix a minor thing like that on an older truck so I'll keep the money.

Then buff out the scratch and take the payment.

If she files a claim, it will be through her own insurance company and you'll never know about it. No one is stupid enough to file a claim through someone else's company when there's a police report saying they're at fault.

Oh ok thats the info I was looking for. I am not trying to take her for her money, I just could care less if the bumper is just barely detached. I have never had any damage to my car in the past 3 years until now. Her car was pretty bad and definlty had over a grand of damage. Thanks though, I just always thought that the insurance company forced you to do whatever it was necessary to fix the car.

You should have taken pics of the accident so they couldn;t pull random sh!t on you. Next, my advice is to have a disposable camera with you at all times.

I took tons of pics at the accident I was invloved in yesterday so my POv is that much stronger for it.

Step 1: Get THREE estimates from local autobody shops. Tell them you want both numbers, the insurance estimate number and the ACTUAL cost they'd charge to fix it. The numbers will be very different.

Step 2: Call the person and give them all 3 of the insurance estimate bills, NOT the actual cost figures.

Step 3: Tell them they have the option of either paying themselves or you'll file the claim with their agency.

That's it, depending on their deductible cost many people would rather pay it themselves than allow the claim to be filed and face higher premiums. If they decide to pay it off, give them a couple of days to get you a cashiers check.
