Stupid serial/parallel cable question

Is there any difference in the wiring between a db25 male-to-male serial cable and a db25 male-to-male parallel cable (parallel on both ends, not centronics).
 
the serial cable may not have all 25 pins connected. It may also have pins 2 and 3 crossed (but not likely). Normally, the parallel cable is wired straight through. The serial cable may or may not.
