I am building a new computer, i am getting the MSI K8N N4 mobo and it says it has SATA and PATA but nothing about IDE. The optical drive i am looking at is this however it says it is an IDE interface, is this compatible or am I a doof?? Also, if u are building from scratch do I need to get retail as opposed to OEm for the cables and such? Thx

IDE and PATA are the same, so you are good with that drive

You should get a retail motherboard since that includes all cables and such. You can go OEM optical drive if you have all that.

Whichever one is cheaper. If it's only like a $1-3 get the retail but it doesn't matter.
