stupid question....what should the correct cpu temperature be at?

I have a dual PIII 1Ghz running on my Gateway 6400 and I was wondering what the temperature should be.
I ran a diagnostic with Sandra and it's giving me a warning about the temp being too high on both processors
currently @ 70 Celcius

and can someone recommend a good, QUIET cooling fan that will fit on both on the same board?

Thanx!

Double check your HSF setup...you may be getting incorrect contact between the heatsink and processor.

ok...this is too weird....
With Sandra, I'm getting a reading of 74C for both cpu
but readings within the Bios shows the 1st cpu @ 35C and the 2nd cpu @ 40C

Which reading should i trust? I would imagine the bios....right?

Do you know what may be happening? Based on those numbers, I think Sandra may be reading and COMBINING the temperatures of both processors. Trust the BIOS more than you do Sandra...

I dont think Sisoft Sandra was designed to take advantage of SMP ;) Trust your BIOS ;) And maybe MBM5.

Good temps for a PIII non-OC? 26-30 idle, depending on ambient temps. Anything above 40*C under load is a cooling problem. They can withstand more punishment than this, but I prefer the temps I listed above.
