STUPID QUESTION: WHAT IS A CNR SLOT?

well, forgive me for lacking this knowledge but, what is the CNR slot under the PCI slots on newer mohterboards? I understand its a 'communications network riser' but, what does that do exactly? thanks for your time everyone! -davo ?

I didn't read the description but it has something to do with "enhanced" connectivity for ethernet, xDSL, etc.

It is not a stupid question just a stupid waste of space by the motherboard manufacturers. Give us another PCI slot instead.

It is not a stupid question. I barely found out what one was 3 weeks ago. I have not upgraded my home computer in about a year and did not catch up on technology. It is just a waste of your time. Just ignore it. Don't even bother getting a MB (assuming that you are in the market for one) with a CNR slot, unless the MB that you like happens to come with one.
