Stupid Question: Shuttle and OEM or Retail Processor

I know I know, but just to confirm. I'm going to buy the Shuttle SN27P2.

Newegg has the 64x2 4800+ OEM for $249 and the 64x2 4600+ Retail for $269. This is my first Shuttle system. In the past I always bought retail CPUs for the HSF. The Shutte comes with ICE cooling solution, so the OEM processor is a much better and more appropriate deal right?

Told you it was a stupid question.

Also, do I need any thermal paste between the Shuttle ICE and CPU or does some come with the package?

Thermal paste comes with it, but I'd shell out the 5 bucks for arctic silver.

If you get the retail CPU then you also get a 3 year AMD warranty. In this case I'd go OEM since you get more speed for less money, but if the difference is only 5 or 10 bucks for the same chip I'd go retail.

Also when you get your SN27P2 check the ports on teh back to make sure the motherboard isn't warped. The ports didn't line up with the openings in the case on the first one Newegg sent me so I could only use one USB port.

Thanks for the tip. I had heard about the USB port problem with the new Core 2 Duo Shuttle system. Did not realize it was an issue with the 27P2 also.

Can you be more specific on the Artic Silver? Newegg has differnent styles and quantities. Which do you reccommend?

Thanks

Ceramique works pretty well. I use it on anything that I'm not overclocking, and on customers' PC's. (Much less likely to go "foom" at a later date.)

That said, AS5 rules.
