Stupid question re: Barcelona

Just a quick question, what chip is Barcelona supposed to be competing with? Higher-end Conroes or Peryn? From what I've read it almost sounds like Conroe is the chip they're trying to beat with Barcelona, but since Conroe's been out for almost a year and it already being replaced soon, that seems a bit counter-intuitive.

Or does no one know yet due to the lack of hard info from AMD?

Well, AMD had been claiming Barcelona whoops Kentsfield's (Core 2 Quad) ass. Then, Intel released Penryn (Wolfdale is dual-core, Yorkfield is quad-core) benches which show it beating Kentsfield by a bigger margin than Barcelona's claimed advantage over Kentsfield.

So my guess is Barcelona will come out and beat/tie Kentsfield in Q3 2007 (that is when Barcelona is coming out, right?) Then Penryn will beat/tie Barcelona in Q4 2007/Q1 2008 or whenever it comes out.
