Stupid question, looking for smart answer.

So I hooked my XBOX (not 360) straight into the composite video input on my Dell 2007WFP... video works great, although if I select 1:1 pixel ratio I get about a 3" screen, but that's a different story.

My real problem is that I cant get any sound.

I bought an RCA extender to allow the audio cables from the XBOX to reach the sub on the ground. My sub has inputs for: center, right, left, rear right, rear left. If I plug the white connector into the left input and red connector into the right input...

Shouldnt I be getting sound?

Thanks for the input dude. I was totally off track in my thought process. 🙂

I ahve another question throw at you... Is there any way to set this up so I dont have to unplug the speakers from my sound card and switch it back everytime I go from XBOX to computer?

You could plug something like this into your line-in of your soundcard if it has one free.

You'll be limited to stereo unless your soundcard can apply surround effects to the line-in signal.

Do you have the RCA output from your xbox running into the connections that your speakers are supposed to be connected to? (The amplified speaker outputs?)

Pretend this is an xbox

This is basically what you want to do if your speakers only a stereo have 3.5mm input.

Once again dude, thanks a lot. I ahve an Audigy 2 card and I have a line in free AFAIK. There are three 3.5mm inputs taken up by the 5.1 speakers and three inputs free. I know one is for the mic and I am assuming one of the others is a line-in.

I actually had that adapter, it came with my Logitech speakers when I bought them like three years ago, but I never used it and lost it.

They should have that 3.5mm stereo to RCA adapter at Best Buy right? Dont really feel like going anywhere else.

Radioshack would have it for sure. I would hope that Best Buy would have it, but I don't know for sure.

I just want to say once more that using this method you'll only get output from the front left, front right, and subwoofer. If that sounds good to you, then go for it.

I ahve a Logitech 5.1 set, but I cant for the life of me remember the name of the set because i got them literally 3 years ago.

They were a value set, not high-end.

I got them for like $80 shipped.

Ok, just wanted to make sure you didn't have more input options. Those sets just tended to have the one 5.1 analog input standard.

If you go out and buy the cable at a retail store, make sure you check the gender. For plugging into your line-in, you'll want the RCA end to be 2 x female and the 3.5mm end to be stereo male.

Alright I'm on my way out the door, I'll let you know how it works, thanks again.

Good luck

Just get a cheap one if there are a lot of options.
