Stupid question incoming! Alpha 8045 vs. GC68

hey shaorinor,

if money wasn't an objective, and your board takes it, i'd definately go with the alpha 8045, as it's a much better overall cooler. the gc68 is a better bang for the buck if you're not overclocking, but the alpha 8045 is simply one of the best out there rite now.

I bought Alpha 8045U, which includes a moderate-noise Delta fan, for about $50 + shipping from Newegg.

With XP1600@148MHz FSB, I've never seen a loaded temp over 41C (Abit KR7A with Hardware Doctor monitor).

Hope this helps!

agreed. If your board is compatible, go for the Alpha. My 8045 with a medium speed 50cfm Sunon fan keeps my 1.0GHz Athlon overclocked to 1365 at 42 full load (although I have seen it climb to 45 when I have the heat cranked.) At the default speed, its never above 38. This is on an Asus A7V, BTW.
