Stupid Question about Win 7 activation on new mobo

Will I have any issues reactivating windows 7 on a new mobo? Its a student edition of Win 7 64 bit pro I got a while back when I was in kollage.

Mucho gusto!

Yes. Student editions are almost always OEM-type. Which means they're meant to be locked to the motherboard.

I wasn't aware of edu licenses being tied to hardware, however some of the agreements become void once you leave school, did you check the license agreement? Chances are that MS support will just blindly give you an activation code, but it would probably be a good idea to at least know if you're using an unlicensed copy or not.

The student edition Windows 7 are not OEM. They are retail copies. So you can re-use them.

If you want to be sure if it's OEM or not, call MS at 1-800-936-5700 and have them identify the product key. You could also ask try chatting: http://www.answerdesk.com/support/expert
