recently switched from TD Banknorth to WaMu and the deposit envelopes are different.

On the TD envelopes i used to have to have to write the account information on the envelope.

Wamu's envelopes only have a place to write the total deposit amount. Does that mean i need to include a deposit slip? I read somewhere that some ATMs have printers in them that print your info on the envelope for you, are WaMu's like this? Theres nothing on the ATMs, envelopes, or there website that says one way or the other.

Don't know the answer, but I always that that ATM's should just be able to print the info on the envelope. You better put in a deposit slip, just in case...Anything on their website?

No, when you deposit the envelope, the account info is printed on the envelope.

I asked after having to make a deposit and not having a deposit slip myself, and the teller said no problem...

If I deposit checks with an ATM, I don't use a deposit slip. I'm not sure if that is the "official" way of doing it, but I haven't ever had problems with it.

I've always deposited without a slip. They tell you to, but it's worked every time.

Besides, my account # gets written on the check, so...

I use Wamu and have never used a deposit slip when depositing money at the ATM.

Oh and just so you know... If you deposit anything above $1,000 they put a hold on the amount in excess of $1,000 for 5 days. Anything over $5,000 has a 10 day hold and anything above $10,000 has a 15 day hold.

I understand not wanting to get burned but when you are dealing with customers who ROUTINELY deposit such checks you should cut them some slack.

They do put a hold on the deposit, but if you frequent the same bank and the tellers recognise you then they can/will do an over ride... thats the way it was for me.

Yeah, but that requires going into the bank and spending 15 minutes depositing a check instead of 2 minutes. Oh well... I guess if it was that important I would do it.

I used to wonder how they match transactions to envelopes since there was no space to write the account number on them.
Now I know.

the bofa atm's are pretty cool. they scan up your check, so no need for deposit slips or envelopes. it also counts your cash on the spot too, so it get credited immediately to your account.

Hmm. Never knew that as I always included a deposit slip.

Relative used to work at BofA and said fools still deposit coins in the ATM which would screw up the machine. Their accounts would be 'locked' out of the ATM and they'd have to come inside for a reminder lecture.

nope, just the checks in the envelope. Your other information is noted when you typed it into the ATM after you inserted your card. The other clue is that there are no deposit slips available anywhere at the ATM... just the envelopes.

Be aware though, don't fudge up the amount you type in on the keypad vs. the amount you deposit. I had a whole 2 month ordeal where they couldn't validate I had put 2 checks in the envelope instead of 1 (I mistakenly typed only 1 check amount into the keypad). At first they said nope I'm wrong, here it is in writing that I'm wrong and there was only 1 check in the envelope, even after I asked about their auditing process. I call my guy to cancel the 2nd check and write me a new one to deposit... he cancels, then right before I go to deposit the new check Wamu says hey we found your check... it was in the envelope after all. F$@K YOU WAMU. It was my mistake at first but... Nice auditing job.
