stupid question about ripping cds...i don't know how ?

can i rip audio music to my laptop's hard drive by using the cd rom? my laptop doesn't have a cdrw, but i just want to pull the info from the cd and transfer it to the harddrive... i don't think i need a cdrw right? i figured that i can read all of ther types of files and just want to move my cd music from the cd onto the hd. thanks for helping w/ this very elementary question.

with a program like music match jukebox and many others you can rip these mp3's no problem, just look through the options or help files associated with your program.

Yes you can. You do not need to have a CDRW to RIP audio. Try using EAC, It is what I use and love it. It's a great program and free to.

thank you all for the replies. i just tried copying an audio cd just by locating the cd drive. however, all i saw were "shortcuts" to songs that were 1kb each. unfortunately, copying those files over didn't help. i don't have jukebox...but hoping windows media player will be able to rip these songs. thanks again... on my way to find eac
