Ok, hear me out on this...

I'm in a tech writing class at school, and today we got a writing assignment. The professor hands the paper out with the needed info, and says what he wants and that its due at the end of the two hour block.

So, rather than writing it by hand, I go up stairs to the computer lab and type it up.
Done in 20 minutes.

Turn it in, and go grab my stuff to leave. As I hit the door, he asks me

"Did you do this with a word processor?"

"Yes"

Then he makes a big scene, saying its not fair to the other students because they didn't have access to grammer correction, spell checker, and other stuff and that he's not sure how he should handle it other than "letting" other students do the same. Repeatidly saying "Now that this has happened.."

After about 3 minutes of this crap, I turn around and leave.

This is a tech school(devry), am I way off base to go upstairs and use a computer to type this up?

Anymore, most teachers require word-processed papers.

As long as he accepted it, don't worry about it.

I don't think it was right, esp since you had to write it in class, but next time just write it on the comp and then write it on paper ;)

he never said you had to write it IN class

he never put a restriction on any resources we could use

I think he's stupid just for asking if you used a word processor. What, did he think you had really neat handwriting or something?

Next time ask first. I can see where the professor was coming from, since you did have the benefits of spell checking and such.

<< some profs are old fashioned, better to do what they say then to argue and get bad grades later >>

as trancenation stated, the correct answer is whatever agrees with the professor's viewpoint. end of story.

yes, he was checking for spelling/grammer

Dirf, I fully, 100% agree with you. But he never told us we couldn't go use the computer lab. Had he said that, I would have hand writen the damn thing.

actually, what i was referring to the professor getting all bent out of shape after the fact. don't go fighting it or anything cuz you'll just be digging your own grave.
