Stupid photoshop question

OK, I have a really stupid photoshop question. I have a couple GIF's that are logos. The logos are black with a white background. How do you make the white background tranparent?

I have been trying to figure this out for WAY too long.

Thanks,

NL5

Open the image, use the magic wand tool to select all the white, press delete... save for web, select GIF... make sure the transparency box is checked.

try working in a new document.. (shortcut keys below if needed)

1) open gif in photoshop
2) press ctrl + a
3) press ctrl + c
4) press ctrl + n
5) hit ok
6) press ctrl + v
7) do what Ness originally posted.

I've found working on a gif image it doesn't work the way I want it to.

File > Save for Web > Preset: GIF 128 > make sure Transparency is checked > click on the colour you want transparent > click the transparency button (grey and white boxes) > Save

tada

or do what was said about using wand, but make sure the mode is RGB AND the background layer is unlocked
