So me and a couple friends were at an apartment and the owners his wireless connection was being strange. The end of the conversation went like this:

friend: hey why does this wireless say 11 mbits? Mine at home says 54 mbits.
me: Because they have more expensive wireless cards.
friend: Oh. well thats ok, comcast is upgrading us to 54 mbits for free.
me: What?
friend: Yeah, it's awesome.
me: Uhh...comcast is only 3 mbit speed, they're definitely not upgrading you to 54mbit. Thats your network speed, not internet speed.
friend: No, I talked to them, they're upgrading us. They gave us the modem for it for free too...the one we had at our old house. (the shark fin one, rather than the rectangular white one)
me: Those are identical. It doesn't matter which you have, your speed is still only 3mbit. At the university they pay thousands of dollars for OC48s, which are 40mbits each, why the hell would comcast offer it for free?
him: Whatever. We're getting it.
me: No, really, you're not. Take my word for it, I get paid for knowing this stuff.

And then I decided to change the subject cause I can't argue with a brick wall. Oh and the mandatory..

you wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

I know the feeling. There is a guy I work with, total dumbass. Anyways he has an old K6-2 PC with a 5gb hdd. One day he is looking at the frys ad and sees an 80gb hdd for $30 after rebates, he asks me if that would work with his machine. I tell him no, his machine probably wouldn't support anything larger than 20gb hdd. FF to the next week, he asks me the same damn question! Same thing the week after that. I just wanted to smack him!!!!

Haha I forgot this part. Like 2 minutes before that he says he got an email about the university virusscan software. I said "oh ok, I've got it on my email cause I run a computer lab there and my boss sent it to me. let me log into my email." Then he says "No I've got it in mine" and then shows me some damn advertisement for it.

Why won't they listen to free tech advice from someone obviously more knowledged?

Almost like my friend

friend: "dude i got this dell its awsome it has 256Mhz of memory and 1.9Gigs of CPU!!!!"

Hey but at least you can laugh at that. I lived with this guy over the summer, he's cool, but he thinks he knows like 10x more than he actually does. Even worse was he asked me to set up his wireless and I said ok buy me a 6 pack and I will, but no tech support after a week or 2. Then he calls me cheap?! lol.

Well for a friend, I'd be happy to setup their wireless for them and provide them with support when they need it, but I'd have to agree with you and say your friend is a moron.
