Damned front differential on the 4WD is RIGHT in the way of the filter. Dont have a filter wrench. Cant get enough twist from my hand to break it lose! :| :|

Mad and venting.

that sucks man
i hate when i cant get simple crap done like that.... i usually stick a wrench right through the filter and just spin that sh!t off 🙂

gotta watch out you don't hit the actual spine coming off the engine block though 😛 (not hard to miss)

On all my previous vehicles I could get a good grip on them filter. Use a rag or something and I could get them to pop off with a bit of grunting. But this one is wiggled in up there good and I cant get enough leverage on it.
My RX-7 had the best filter in the world. Top mount. You opened the hood and it was RIGHT there at the very top of the engine off to the side. It was great.

Because in 10 years I've only needed one once.
In the 10+ years I was an auto mechanic, I don't think I tried getting a filter off without a wrench even once. 😉

(Well, that's not true. But my point was made! 😛 )

You should upgrade to Microsoft WindowsOilChanges version 2.0. Version 2 supports plug and play. What does this mean for you? It means that when you install new oil in your car, it will automatically go out and buy the oil filter and install it for you. No more messing with oil filter wrenches, no more spilling half the oil that was still in the filter all over your engine and ground. It's all automatic now.

What a day we live in.

I tried the screwdriver method once, ended up with an oil filter base plate jammed up against the block after the sheet metal of the filter ripped🙁

I have a great big locking pliers for those stubborn filters & wrenches for oil filters for cars I no longer own😀
