Hi All, great site here btw.

I am new to the OC world and have what I am sure is a stupid question, so I hope you want mock me too badly. :)

I have an Athlon 900 (9*100) on an ABIT KT7R.

Using SoftMenu, I've been tinkering with my FSB. I can raise it to 107 and it will POST and Load Windows, but after 107, it will hang on loading windows (XP Pro). It will continue to POST up to 112 mhz though.

I was kind of hoping to squeeze into the 1Ghz barrier. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was considering uppin my Voltage slightly and trying again, as it is set tot he 1.73 default currently.

Also, I should know this but maybe it's the cold weather, if I up my Multiplier, will it Insta-Fry my CPU, or do I have some lattitude here?

Thansk for taking the time to read, and thanks for any light you can shed.

is it a kt133 chipset (not kt133a)
those chipsets have trouble going over 110fsb usually

anyways, you would need to unlock the cpu first to change the mult
doing so will not instafry the cpu, granted your temperatures at the moment are not really high

dont be afraid to push voltage to max available inbios if needed, just keep an eye on temperatures
motherboard monitor is a good program

Thanks Champion,

I'll do some searching on the web as to how to unlock the CPU.

It is indeed the KT133 Chipset, not the 'A' Flavor...

I am currently using the stock VIA HW Monitor, as Motherboard Mon had a tendancy to crash me when running UT2k3. I know it's not the most robust monitor, but the CPU temp seems to be accurate...

Currently at 963mhz, I idle at about 30C.

I will go look into unlocking the CPU. Many thanks!

Oh, I did mean to mention too that I am running 2x 128mb Crucial PC133 RAM, so I'm hoping the RAM shouldn't bark too much from the FSB being raised...

well your cpu is at a fsb of 100 by default, and ram is at 133 by default (unless board doesnt support 133mhz dram, only 100?)

anyways, the ram should not bark at you until 133mhz, and then some.
it is brand name stuff, so most likely if you have any trouble, its not the ram

Well, finnaly got around to tackling the Unlocking of the Multiplier on my Athlon 900/KT-7R Mobo.

I opted for the more permanent solution, and picked up some Rear Window Defroster Grid repair compound and filled in my L1 Bridge gaps.

Alas, my Mobo will still not let me set my multi above 9, so I guess I flubbed my 'cold soldering'. Since the board is jumperless, the BIOS should let me set it higher if it was unlocked, so process of elimination tells me it isn't unlocked now. :(

Anyone else encounter this?

TIA,
Hayle

Edited: For spelling.

Oh, I should mention, the repair compound seems prety permanent, so I'm not sure how easy it will be for me to surgically remove it. Was thinking of testing for conductivity with a multi meter, but I'm not sure if they use low enough volts/aperage or will it blow the CPU?

Thanks,
Hayle
