Stupid Marketing Research requirement...

gopunk

Lifer
so i'm taking a marketing class, and they basically force you to participate in some research that grad students conduct. i come in a few minutes late, because i was coming from a study session... and they won't let me in because they say the computers are taken up. there are sign up sheets, WTF is the point of signing up if my space doesn't get reserved?

but i've decided not to be angry about this matter, i'll just give bizarre answers to f*ck with their data 😀

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Jerry got screwed out of a rental car for which he had a reservation.

Market research sucks anyway.

<< that's just how it is...
especially in psychology classes.

when i did that research, they were actually nice to me and appreciated me. these bastards are just pricks, because they know that i *have* to do this research. their data will suffer!

report this to your school's IRB board, Human Subjects Committee. It is probably a violation that will prevent them from getting federal funding if they are really coercing peple into participating in research.

Don't mess with all the answers, since they'll identify you as an outlier and discard the results. Just a few weird answers should do it. 😀

well, i simplified it a bit 😱

what is actually happening is that there is a project you have to do. you have two choices, you can either fill out some surveys (takes an hour), or you can write a research paper (min. 2 sources, must be 5 pages, etc). so they technically give you a choice, but i'd be surprised if anybody chose the latter.

hmmm. well, if you chosse the former they can not require you to complete it -- and then can not penalize you (i.e. not give you the grade points for not completing it).... still sounds suspicious

hmm:

"An investigator shall seek such consent only under circumstances that provide the prospective subject or the representative sufficient opportunity to consider whether or not to participate and that minimize the possibility of coercion or undue influence."

eh but i don't want to rock the boat 😛 maybe if i get a bad grade 😀

I wouldn't report it either -- but maybe I would send an anonymous note later to the prof outlining why they are lame for allowing that. If anyone were penalized for their participation or non-participation then that is definitely a violation.
