Actually whats more depressing then not recognizing old tech is that fact that most kids I meet have no common sense whatsoever. My 13 and 15 yr old cousins are both fairly book smart but they have shitty social skills(unless it involves texting) And their friends are just as socially awkward. It's kinda depressing to see that as the next and future generation.

@ Paratus good old phone modem connecting. Thats about as bad as nails on a chalkboard to me

Remember in the movies when you would see a nervous persons frantically clicking on the hook and an operator would answer?

That's not exactly bogus. If you are a good clicker you can dial a number just by clicking the hook the number of times, pause and repeating until done. I'm sure there are folks here that are highly skilled at reciprocating movements with their hands. 😉

I used to do that when I was a kid. I couldn't dial a specific number, but it was fun taking pot luck :^D

I used to dial my friends by tapping the hook (ten clicks for a zero, longer pause between numbers), but I know that's not what you mean. 😉

Yes ten clicks for 0, four clicks for 4 and so on. Pause about a second in between clickings. That's exactly what I meant. 😉

Megapixels mean nothing. I have an old Canon SD20 5MP P&S from 2004. I compared pictures from a 12MP Sony P&S and it was night and day. The indoor low light shots on the Sony looked like oil paintings! The sensor noise was so high and the processing over compensated to cover it up it was just awful! My iphone 4 does better. 😀

It's possible that your Canon SD20 from 2004 has Sony guts.

I don't really look to branding with digital devices anymore, especially not cameras. back when the D10 was first released, pretty much all guts were Sony across the board.

Canon's CMOS is definitely their own thing, but I believe many of the post processing chips (Digic or whatever they're called) are made by other companies, who pretty much sell to everyone else, depending on who is putting out the better stuff or are cheaper at that particular time.

The only thing to really look for in a name when it comes to cameras is the glass, if you ask me.

Of course with Sony, it's Zeiss. which is certainly not shabby.
 
sony is only licensing the zeiss lens formulas(coatings and elements) just like panasonic is using leica's formulas. neither zeiss or leica are making the actual lenses.

Just try to match the cadence of a rotary phone and it works great. You don't have to be specific. You can go a bit faster or slower and even change speed in the middle of dialing a number. It's pretty forgiving... at least it was with my phone company back then (Southern Bell).

Makes sense. I used to get frustrated with the return speed of the rotaries, and I'd yank them back home with my finger. Touch tone is superior to use, but sometimes I miss the old rotary dial phones. I wouldn't mind having a working phone booth in the house, ya know the old sit down kind they had in nicer establishments? One with a wooden case, and seat :^)

Even though we used a rotary phone when I was a kid...I never actually thought about it the term "dialing."

My TVs and even my cable box had a dial, but we didn't say "dial channel 69."

I don't think they say this anymore:
"DON'T TOUCH THAT DIAL! We'll be RIGHT BACK!"

I just picked one up in almost-unused condition for $20 at Goodwill.

-Original joysticks
-Original power cord
-Original game switch (RF switch)

-No paddle controllers
-Not a woody version.
