stupid is as stupid asks....

It depends on the chip used for the RAID, but most of them take a dim view of anything besides hard drives.

Right, but if it's made by Promise or Hotpoint, I believe you're out of luck. I seem to recall ITE making a RAID chip that tolerates optical drives, but it's not so common.

it would seems that i should know more, perhaps by the process of osmosis. I had just asked a question about a raid card and the two were connected. somtimes it's hard to get answers and it makes you feel like everyone knows but you.....can you spell paranoid? 😱

Well, you could just plug it in ans see what happens! If it works, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't. No biggie.

Good luck!

Exactly..plug it in and see what happens. Personally I'm pretty sure it will work. There where IDE RAID cards that I attached one IDE cdrom and worked. Some card may have their own 'laws', this one card wanted any raid to be used in primary, and the secondary was normal.

So try both, try using it in the primary..if nothing, use it the secondary IDE port. Should do the trick.
Post back, tell us what happened.
