Stupid IDE/RAID question

i was planning on getting this 8-device, 4-channel ide ata133 raid controller card for $97US ($20US s/h) which is $180ish Canadian, maybe $200 shipped. by comparison a 2-channel Promise FastTrack2000 is $180 here.

so here's my stupid question, i don't plan on using it for raid heh, just plan on putting 4 drives, 1 on each channel so i won't get ide (ie, 2 devices on the same channel copying to each other will stall anyways) channel bottlenecks.

what's everyone's take on this? more learned and experienced in the ways of ata and ide than i. i'm just clueless. is this pointless for me to use it as such?

my other option is to put a promise raid 100 card to go with my existing promise ata100 controller

would this work? or would one set of ide adapters cancel the other out?

I can't say I've tried it, but you should be able to add 2 promise cards (based on analogy to scsi). At least I don't know of any reason why they would conflict.

Recheck the specs..I have a Yeckram UltraATA100 RAID controller and it allows for upto two controllers to be present.

Then again, it might just see it as another bootable device...I am pretty sure if you buy afrom a different manufacturer it will be that way...
