Stupid i/o plate

Got a generic case here that I'm fitting an ATX boart into.

The i/o plate has the matching ports, but there are metal tabs covering those ports. They won't easily break off but I can bend them up to open the port for the board's ports to fit through. I was going to do this but I'm not sure.

Is this common?

Yes, just bend them up and the you slide the MB in they make a snug fit.

All new MB's I/O plates have them.

A good case will come with multiple plates or a good motherboard will come with the right plate for it.

Mostly I see the good mobos coming with their own plate if they aren't normal. In my case my Abit board came with a new plate. I broke some stuff off on mine. The metal tabs are normally bent in and they form around the connectors. If something is actually blocking an input or output then yeah pop that out

I believe you're talking about EMI (electromagnetic interference) prevention springs. They're supposed to be there. You have to install the board in such a manner that the clips don't go into any jackblocks.
